W artykule omówiono kontakty dwóch znaczących osobistości w Polsce przełomu XVI i XVII wieku – wojewody Mikołaja Zebrzydowskiego i jezuity ks. Piotra Skargi. Pierwsze ich spotkanie nastąpiło, gdy Zebrzydowski rozpoczynał swoją publiczną działalność, a ksiądz Skarga był już doświadczonym kapłanem i jezuitą. Zebrzydowski nosił się wówczas z zamiarem fundacji kolegium jezuickiego w rodowych dobrach w pobliżu Lublina. Kolejna znacząca współpraca związana była z powołanym do istnienia w Krakowie przez ks. Skargę Bractwem Miłosierdzia. Ksiądz Skarga bardzo pozytywnie oceniał postawę i zaangażowanie (...) Zebrzydowskiego w obydwa dzieła. Sytuacja uległa dość znaczącej zmianie, gdy Zebrzydowski, obrażony na Króla Zygmunta III Wazę, przeszedł do opozycji antykrólewskiej i stanął na czele rokoszu. Ksiądz Skarga dwukrotnie udał się do wojewody, aby odwieść go od tego nielegalnego działania. Poselstwa nie przyniosły pozytywnego rezultatu. Wzajemnie relacje obu osobistości uległy oziębieniu, choć można przypuszczać, że Zebrzydowski pod ich wpływem w końcu pogodził się z królem. Pewne relacje z jezuitami dalej podtrzymywał, ale już bez poprzedniego zaangażowania. (shrink)

Artykuł stanowi łączną odpowiedź na teksty, których autorami są Maciej Bała, Ryszard Mordarski oraz Marek Słomka. In pre-revolutionary Russia, law was criticized from many points of view: in the name of Christ or the name of Marx, in defense of anarchism or of an idealized autocracy, on behalf of the "Russian soul" or of universal progress towards socialism. Examining the rich tradition of hostility to law, Walicki presents those Russian thinkers who boldly challenged this legacy of anti-legal prejudice by developing liberal philosophies of law, vindicating the value of human rights and rule of law. The paper consists of two parts, outlined in the title.I. In the historical science time appears as an element of the historian’s workshop. The historian collects source information, evaluates them and assigns respective dates. Only on the ground of thus “processed” sources may he reproduce the past: events and longer development processes, setting them in time. This dated time is understood colloquially as something objective, which runs one way and may be measured.II. A historian who studies the past reality depends (...) on the extent to which those sources are preserved. As a result of their interpretation, with the use of increasingly excellent research methods, he reproduces that reality. He must carry out an ongoing selection of historical facts found. This exposes him to temptations of such selection of those facts so as to adjust the historical knowledge to serve well the national interests, his own political opinions, etc. In this way the historian exerts influence on social awareness, which may consists of various myths and stereotypes, which sometimes lead to negative social behaviors: aggression, chauvinism, etc. Therefore, for researcher honesty’s sake and in the sense of moral responsibility, he must be careful to be as impartial as possible in his work. Three classical work, with commentary on Jaina philosophy and doctrines.

The increasing trend concerning loosing respect towards honoured authorities can nowadays be observed in most of the areas of social life. This refers also to universities and decreasing respect towards academics. The study at Karol Adamiecki Univeristy of Economics in Katowice, focused on structure and hierarchy of values declared by its students, were expected to reveal whether this assumption is true. The study characterized reasons for and directions of change in the declared hierarchy of values among the young. It was (...) of high importance to diagnose the core of interactions between students and academics, i.e. to answer a question whether academics employed by the University are perceived by the students as persons whose personal approach and behaviours could be followed. The results show that nowadays academic is not respected as an authority for her/his students. The way to regain respect seems to be based on reinforcement of traditional master (tutor) – student relations, as university is this particular place where this kind of interrelations should develop. The task of building this relation needs time and efforts, as well as sets a high standard for academics to present unimpeachable ethical approach as well as openness towards students and dynamic changes in the environment. The problem of precise characterisation of traditional forms of reasoning applied in mathematics was independently investigated and successfully resolved by Jaśkowski and Gentzen in 1934. However, there are traces of earlier interests in this field exhibited by the members of the Lvov-Warsaw School. We focus on the results obtained by Jaśkowski and Leśniewski. Jaśkowski provided the first formal system of natural deduction in 1926. Leśniewski also demonstrated in some of his papers how to construct proofs in accordance with intuitively correct (...) principles. (shrink)

We classify two of Bertrand Russell's theories of events within the point-free ontology. The first of such approaches was presented informally by Russell in ‘The World of Physics and the World of Sense’ (Lecture IV in Our Knowledge of the External World of 1914). Based on this theory, Russell sketched ways to construct instants as collections of events. This paper formalizes Russell's approach from 1914. We will also show that in such a reconstructed theory, we obtain all axioms of Russell's (...) second theory from 1936 and all axioms of Thomason's theory of events from 1989. Russell's work certainly influenced the works of Stanisław Leśniewski, his student Alfred Tarski, and Czesław Lejewski – prominent members of the Lvov-Warsaw School (LWS). We see our work in the tradition of the research of Leśniewski and Tarski. Building on the technical tools developed in this environment and in the spirit of the traditional research of the LWS, we engage here, in particular, with two classic works by Russell on fundamental ontology. The aim of the paper is to examine the nature of moral and legal norms in a broader context: first, taking into account logical and methodological assumptions, second, in the perspective of psychology of emotions and legal policy. The basic subject of the research carried out by Leon Petrażycki was represented by law. Originally, it had a psychological character, not an objective, eternal, and unchanging one. To fully understand the genesis and nature of morality and law, Petrażycki addressed the study (...) of mental phenomena, especially emotional experiences. First, however, he developed appropriate rules of logic and scientific methodology. Then he developed a new classification of mental phenomena, among which the fundamental role is played by bilateral emotions. At some stage, emotions begin to cooperate with cognitive processes, first of all with imaginations. Imaginations of acts, such as theft, betrayal, murder, can cause repulsive emotions, and type imaginations, such as truthfulness, charity, justice can evoke apulsive emotions. On the basis of such associations, judgments are created over time, the content of which becomes a basis for fundamental rules of conduct, that is, for norms. There are two fundamentally different types of norms: moral norms and legal norms. The norms of the first type are imperative and represent the nature of validity, while the norms of the second type are imperative-attributive and they also always entitle someone to something, i.e. they give someone a right. This division determines a fundamental difference between morality and law. (shrink)

The present article undertakes the theme of social thought of Cardinal Hlond. It presents the questions of social engagement of Catholics, the problems of the family, the theory of the nation as well as the concept of the state. The problem of the Catholic engagement is the important element of Cardinal Hlond’s social teaching. It appears in the multidimensional perspective. One can find here the political, the socio-economic dimensions as well as the cultural one. The culture is understood here in (...) a very wide sense. All the activities leading to the person’s spiritual, intellectual and moral development belong to it. The second important topic of Cardinal Hlond’s social teaching are family issues. The family is understood as the environment of moral and religious development of every person. It transforms, builds and improves family life as well as every human being’s dignity. Another important subject is the concept of nation. For Hlond nation is the natural environment of the individual’s development. Two fundamental elements describe the notion of nation: community and culture. They are carriers the moral, religious, intellectual and spiritual values. The final important point of Cardinal Hlond’s social teaching is the concept of state. For the Cardinal the state should be always at the service in the relations to citizens. The role of the state appears in three dimensions. First, to create living conditions for every citizen; second, to guarantee the fundamental and natural law of freedom; third, to create the „space” of self-realization, which manifests itself in public life activity. Obecne są w niej szersze analizy stanu kultury współczesnej, a także relacje z istotnych koncepcji obecnych we współczesnej humanistyce, bez których nie można zrozumieć ewolucji współczesnej humanistyki i specjalnej roli, jaką odegrała w niej filozofia Richarda Rorty'ego.

“Age of life” is one of the essential characteristics that differentiate people. Age perception is also associated with social justice. The concept of age is defined ambiguously. At the same time, the different age criteria also forms the basis of age differentiation and age discrimination. The population lead to distinctions of age groups, age categories, and generations. Differences between generations also lead to Study in the concepts of intergenerationality, intergenerational justice, and intergenerational policies.

Generational differences in societies are characteristics generally attributed to people’s age that constitute a sociocultural phenomenon. Divisions in the generations differ across nations and extend even to civilizations. Perception and recognition of the different characteristics of each generation affect the cooperation between people in social, political, and economic capacities, and subsequently extend to entities in the public, informal, commercial, and nongovernmental sectors. From the perspective of social justice, it is important to draw attention to how workplace management techniques are used (...) to promote equal opportunities among representatives of various generations. Szkolnictwo elementarne prowadzone przez parafie i zakony katolickie obrządku łacińskiego na ziemiach polskich przyłączonych do Rosji w latach 1772–1795 aż do reformy systemu edukacyjnego wprowadzonej w 1803 r. nie były kontrolowane przez władze państwowe. Prowadziły one działalność na podstawie dawnego prawa polskiego lub zgodnie z zasadami wywodzącymi się z tradycji staropolskich, akceptowanymi przez władze kościelne i rodziców posyłających dzieci na naukę. Jedyną instytucją nadzorującą były władze kościelne, które zbierały informacje o stanie szkolnictwa oraz starały się wpływać na plebanów i władze (...) zakonne, by organizowały szkoły elementarne przy każdej parafii i każdym klasztorze. Jesienią 1797 r. w niekanonicznej diecezji pińskiej funkcjonowało 147 szkółek parafialnych lub zakonnych. Szkoły te zorganizowano w 120 miejscowościach (72% ze 166 miejscowości, w których istniała świątynia parafialna lub zakonna nieparafialna). W porównaniu do stanu szkolnictwa elementarnego w ostatnich latach niepodległości Rzeczpospolitej liczba szkół znacznie wzrosła. Należy jednak pamiętać, że raporty z 1797 r. odnotowują każdą formę prowadzonego nauczania. W czasach Komisji Edukacji Narodowej nauczanie przy parafii i w klasztorach sierot i dzieci z ubogich rodzin, a także nauka prowadzona według starych wzorców traktowane byłyby jako nauczanie prywatne, nie szkoła formalna. Zwykle nie odnotowywano takich miejsc nauczania w spisach szkół. Jeśli za szkołę formalną działacze oświatowi uznawali tylko taką, której program pokrywał się z treściami zawartymi w elementarzu wydanym przez Komisję Edukacji Narodowej (nauka pisania i czytania, rachunki, katechizm i nauka powinności moralnych), to tak uczono tylko w 21 szkołach diecezji pińskiej (18%). Widoczne jest także trzymanie się przez duchowieństwo zasady, że szkoła elementarna, przeznaczona z zasady dla dzieci szlacheckich, powinna przygotowywać do nauki w szkołach wyżej zorganizowanych. Świadczy o tym prowadzenie w aż 47 placówkach nauczania języka łacińskiego (39%). W 140 szkółkach elementarnych rządcy parafii lub przełożeni zakonni odnotowali w raportach liczbę dzieci uczących się w szkołach. Jesienią 1797 r. w diecezji pińskiej uczyło się 1669 dzieci, w znakomitej większości chłopców. Do większości szkół uczęszczało kilku lub kilkunastu uczniów. Przeciętnie w szkole elementarnej diecezji pińskiej uczyło się wówczas 11,9 uczniów, czyli niewiele więcej niż w latach poprzedzających trzeci rozbiór Polski (wówczas średnio na szkołę przypadało 11,2 uczniów). Dziewczęta kształcono w 7 konwiktach prowadzonych przez zakony żeńskie, w których uczyło się 122 uczennic, według takich samych zasad jak w Polsce przedrozbiorowej. Wychowaniem i nauczaniem w nich zajmowało się 148 osób, 67 księży i zakonników oraz 81 pedagogów świeckich. Duchowni z zasady nie pobierali wynagrodzenia, uczyli bowiem w ramach obowiązków duszpasterskich. Nauczyciele świeccy za naukę w szkole byli wynagradzani przez plebanów, przełożonych zakonnych, rodziców, właścicieli ziemskich lub pobierali opłatę z funduszu kościelnego z tytułu posługi organisty lub kantora. Wynagrodzeniem za naukę mogła być pensja, dochody fundacyjne, akcydensy (opłaty okazyjne), użytkowanie ziemi ornej, sadu i ogrodu, opłaty uczniowskie, legaty pieniężne i naturalia. (shrink)

Spouses exhibit two kinds of behaviours: protective and transgressive. Protective acts are those aiming to overcome current problems, leading to preserving some balance. Transgressive acts are deliberately overstepping everyday marital reality and doing new things in new ways. They lead to changing the relation with the hope of improving it, but also create the risk of deterioration. The more transgressive behaviours spouses exhibit, the more chances they have to get to know each other and experience the joy of being part (...) of a union. Transgressive tendencies stem from a network personality structure and consist of five psychons: cognitive, instrumental, motivational, emotional, and personal. The success of a marriage is the effect of a specific form of transgressive behaviours in marriage exhibited by both spouses, which is recognizing difficulties as they appear, finding their sources, and taking steps together to overcome them. In terms of psychotransgressionism, personality is a network of five equipollent psychons, the content of which determines the personality’s functioning. The strength and power of the individual psychons underlies the tendency to undertake transgressive actions. In this study, we hypothesized that transgressive spouses are characterized by greater potential strength, greater power of cognitive, instrumental, motivational, emotional, and personal psychons than protective spouses. We operationalized all psychons, created the appropriate research tools, and then studied married couples. Using the Transgression Scale developed (...) by Studenski, we found a group of spouses with higher levels of transgression, and a group of spouses with lower levels of transgression. Transgressive wives are characterized by better knowledge about their husbands’ operational sphere, and are more aware of personal beliefs than protective wives. Similarly, transgressive husbands have greater knowledge of their wives’ operational sphere, stronger cognitive needs, and weaker personal needs than protective husbands. Transgressive husbands are characterized by a positive affective shift and have a greater awareness of personal beliefs than protective husbands. The potential brought into interpersonal relationships by transgressive spouses may create a climate conducive to building a satisfying marital relationship. (shrink)
